Things to do first after the initial Odoo setup

Once you create a database and log in, the very first thing you should do is enable developer mode. Navigate and click on the waffle icon in the left upper corner and select Settings

Configure General Settings

  • Navigate to Settings in the main menu.

  • Set the company information, such as name, address, contact details, logo, and other relevant data.

  • Configure language, timezone, and currency settings according to your business requirements.

Set your currency correctly, For example, if your company is located in Honduras but uses USD for transactions, change it to USD

Install Necessary Modules

  • Go to the Apps menu.

  • Search for and install the modules you need for your business operations, such as Sales, CRM, Accounting, Inventory, Purchase, HR, and others.

Set Up Users and Access Rights

  • Navigate to System ‣ Log Files ‣ General for an overview of system events.

  • Navigate to Settings ‣ Users ‣ Companies

  • Create user accounts for your team members.

  • Assign appropriate access rights and roles to each user based on their job responsibilities.

Configure Company Policies

  • Define fiscal year settings, accounting periods, and tax configurations.

  • Set up company policies for sales, purchases, invoicing, and other business processes.

Import Data

  • If migrating from another system, import existing data such as products, customers, vendors, and historical transactions.

  • Use the import feature available in each module (For example Sales ‣ Products ‣ Import).

Set Up Email Servers

  • Navigate to Settings ‣ Technical ‣ Email ‣ Outgoing Mail Servers and Incoming Mail Servers.

  • Configure email servers to ensure that Odoo can send and receive emails.

Configure Document Templates

  • Customize document templates for quotations, sales orders, invoices, purchase orders, and other documents to match your company’s branding.

Set Up Workflows

  • Configure workflows and automation rules to streamline business processes.

  • Define approval hierarchies, automated actions, and notifications.

Training and Testing

  • Train your users on how to use Odoo effectively.

  • Perform thorough testing of all processes to ensure everything works as expected.

Go Live

  • Once everything is set up and tested, you can go live.

  • Monitor the system closely during the initial phase to address any issues promptly.
